Campaign update 〰️
Our most recent update:
March 2026
There remain significant threats to our local environment in South Oxfordshire which we intend to campaign effectively against including:
A planning application for a new town in Chalgrove is expected in the coming months – we will work hard to prevent this ill-conceived development;
Changes to national legislation may soon see promoters again propose a new town (“Harrington”) adjacent to The Haseleys: HBAG will always oppose this new town;
Homes England (the Government new housing QUANGO) have been actively purchasing additional land in South Oxfordshire and are clearly considering how this land may be developed; we will hold them to account.
HBAG exists to represent the views and concerns of our local community and to ensure that you are fully aware of everything that is happening. We must emphasise that we are not a NIMBY (not in my back yard) organisation. Oxfordshire has a very significant housing need and it very important that housing developments take place to satisfy that need. However, there is a real risk that very significant housing developments might take place at totally unsuitable locations near to us.
There is much work and campaigning to be done and, with your help, HBAG can lead the way in ensuring that our case is well-presented and ultimately effective.
In recent weeks we have:
Formally established HBAG as an Unincorporated Association with a constitution;
Agreed a chair for the next year and appointed new Steering Committee members (see below);
Reviewed our financial standing as a campaignand set in place a clear process for our future expenditure;
Arranged key meetings including with our local MP to ensure campaigning work continues against our HBAG goals;
Worked to better understand changes being made to our Local Plan and the implications for planning matters in South Oxfordshire.
