About us
Haseley Brook Action Group was established in 2015 to protect and enhance Haseley Brook and its surroundings by engaging the community, responding to planning proposals, organising campaigns, and raising funds on a not-for-profit basis.
Our Purpose
Haseley Brook Action Group exists to ensure that any major housing development is South Oxfordshire is appropriate, properly planned, and genuinely in the interests of Oxfordshire.
We support the need for new homes. Oxfordshire faces significant housing demand, and development is both necessary and inevitable. But it must be done in the right places, for the right reasons, and in the right way.
Our focus is simple:
to ensure development meets the needs set out in local plans
to ensure proposals comply fully with planning policy and regulation
and, crucially, to protect the quality of life, character, and sustainability of our rural communities
A Balanced Approach
We are not a “not in my back yard” group. We believe in responsible growth, not blanket opposition.
However, we are deeply concerned about proposals that risk:
disproportionate, large-scale housing in unsuitable locations
developments that primarily serve commuter demand rather than local need
severe traffic pressures caused by poor connectivity to employment centres
insufficient or absent local infrastructure — including schools, healthcare, and shops
irreversible damage to the character and lifestyle of our villages
Growth should strengthen communities — not overwhelm them.
An Action-Led Organisation
Above all, Haseley Brook Action Group is about taking action.
When inappropriate development is proposed, we are equipped to respond quickly and effectively:
We bring together local expertise in planning policy and local plans
We maintain a dedicated fund to commission independent planning and legal advice
We are prepared to challenge proposals formally, including through legal routes where necessary
Our strength comes from the community itself - from the many residents who have come together to ensure their voice is heard and their villages are protected.
Our Commitment
We are here to ensure that development in our area is:
needed, proportionate, sustainable
and right for Oxfordshire, not just convenient for elsewhere.
